Celebrate the 2015 summer solstice at Stonehenge

The ancient stone circle of Stonehenge has likely been the focal point of solstice celebrations since Neolithic times and today, the annual summer solstice is still the most atmospheric time to view the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Huge crowds of sun-worshippers, druids and revelers descend on Stonehenge to celebrate the longest day of the year and it’s an experience unlike no other.

The summer and winter solstice are the only time of year to witness the stone’s unique astronomical alignment, which many believe to have been the focal point of ancient pagan rituals and the reason for the building of the mysterious stones. It’s an impressive sight, as the rising sun aligns perfectly with the heel stone (a lone stone located outside the circle), and the festive ambience is infectious, with costumed revelers performing age-old rituals, street entertainers and tribal drummers showing off their tricks, and yoga enthusiasts performing sun salutations beneath the rising sun.

For one night only (from around 7pm on Saturday, June 20, until 8am on Sunday, June 20), the Stonehenge inner circle will be open to visitors to celebrate the annual solstice. Anyone can attend the festivities, but you must purchase tickets in advance, and with such huge crowds, booking a tour can make the experience much more manageable. For the ultimate experience, book a sunset or sunrise viewing and celebrate the 2015 summer solstice at Stonehenge. This special tour is only available on June 20 and 21, so book now!
