I don’t know how a person can live in London. Or an American, anyway—the city is just too full of landmarks. I guess that’s an advantage a city gets when it’s been around for a couple thousand years—plenty of time to stock up on famous statues, churches and bridges.
London’s old and so are its sights, but there are a few that I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of. For whatever reason, I thoroughly enjoy the Tower of London tours, especially the tours where you get your own Beefeater guard. These guys, technically known as Yeoman Warders can be a little cheesy, but I always laugh at most of their jokes. And the history of the Tower is pretty awesome and intriguing anyway.
Depending on what you’re in London to see, there are different London city passes you can get that give you packaged or discounted admission to places such as Kensington Palace, Hampton Court and the Tower. For under $60, there’s a pass that gets you into more than 600 historical places across England, Scotland and Wales, including Stonehenge and Big Ben.
Those places are important to see. While they might be around for a really long time, you’re only visiting for a comparatively short one. But after you’ve seen the sites in your textbooks, take the London Rock Music Tour. Even if you’re not a rock fan (my dad isn’t, and he was still fascinated), this tour takes you on a fascinating trip across London’s rock heritage.
